We’re now on 20.1.2020. Oh, little did we know what this year would bring! When I think of our naive, hopeful selves… but jumping ahead here. back then the Corona Virus was just a mildly-scary thing happening to some unfortunate chines province. Here in London, we were more concerned with which cuisine to celebrate next.
It was Bernhard’s turn, and he went Georgian.
I must commend his boldness in attempting to make traditional Mchadi – pan-fried mais buns. I must commend the attempt, because the result was pretty awful: tough and chewy. Here’s the recipe – maybe you’ll have more success with it :-). The Veg Salsa that went with them was delicious, though: Georgian Adjika paste.
Then came rich Chicken in Garlic Walnut Sauce – SATSIVI and a Georgian green Salad with creamy Walnut dressing. These were both excellent, and well matched.
We washed it all down with a brilliant (sweet!) Georgian Red Wine. None of us can remember what we had for dessert, sadly, but I’m sure it was yummy…
‘Us’, by the way, consisted at this dinner of Dorottya, Lianne, Me, Benhrad, and Livvy – a witty work-friend of Bs.
As to the musical soundtrack, there was some debate: Bernhard couldn’t find Georgian music to suit his taste, so put something random on (probably Metallica). Dorottya, however, wouldn’t have any of that cop-out nonsense, and quickly found (and played on her phone) a Georgian Playlist on Spotify. Here’s the link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1ggnbwPgliav7xvkTQbRy8?si=XHA9TBZeT4ewNWCTWYTgSQ . See what you make of it…
